PURPOSE:To accurately perform the recording, etc., of information in a short time by detecting a laser irradiated position immediately with laser light which is transmitted through a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The position detecting device 2 consists of a magnetic head array 3 and a photodiode array 4 and many magnetic heads 5 for magnetic modulation of the magnetic head array 3 are arranged zigzag on a base material 8 while crossing the tracks 7 of a magneto-optical disk 6. When a position A in the surface of the disk 6 is irradiated with the laser light, the laser light is transmitted through the magnetic disk 6 to irradiate a position B on the photodiode array 4 positioned vertically below the position A. The irradiated position A of the laser light can be detected immediately and a magnetic head 5 corresponding to the irradiated position A is selected in the magnetic head array 3 and a current is supplied to only the selected magnetic head 5 to produce an external magnetic field. Consequently, information is accurately recorded or overwritten in a short time. |
