An apparatus for quenching synthetic filaments which comprises an elongated chimney, a porous open-celled foam sheet, dividing said chimney longitudinally into a plenum chamber and a quenching chamber through which filaments pas in a path from an extrusion device to a means for collecting filaments and a means to supply a flow of gas to the plenum chamber.
