PURPOSE: To provide a system for easily agitating leftover food without overload of the driving motor by sensing overload of the driving motor when a driving motor is overloaded and selectively performing forward and reverse rotations of the driving motor, and a method for controlling the system. CONSTITUTION: In a system for detecting overload of leftover food treater comprising an overload detection means(122) for sensing overload of the driving motor when a driving motor(90) for rotating an agitation shaft installed in an agitation tank is overloaded; a control means(150) for controlling driving and stopping of a sprinkling solenoid valve(22) and the driving motor, wherein the sprinkling solenoid valve opens and closes an inflow path of water injected into the agitation tank in a certain period by receiving an electric signal of the overload detection means; and a power supply means(110) for supplying a driving power source to the overload detection means and the control means, the system is characterized in that the overload detection means judges whether the driving motor is overloaded or not by sensing varied output current of the power supply means when leftover food is not agitated as rotation of the agitation shaft is stopped, and the control means comprises a reference time generation part(158) for performing a timer function by measuring certain time intervals, a first Micom(152) for outputting signals of forward rotation or reverse rotation and stopping as long as a certain time preset in the driving motor by receiving an output signal of the reference time generation part, and a memory(156) for storing data of the first Micom.
