PURPOSE: A hard disk protecting device and a method are provided to detect acceleration caused by a system movement, and to move the head of a hard disk to a parking zone based on a detected value, thereby preventing the hard disk or data stored in the hard disk from being damaged. CONSTITUTION: A thermal monitor(7), a hard disk(12) for storing various data, and an acceleration detecting module(10) for detecting acceleration in accordance with a movement are connected to a communication bus(SMBUS). The thermal monitor(7) monitors heat generated inside a system or heat generated in a CPU(1). The acceleration detecting module(10) detects the acceleration in accordance with the movement, external shock or a vibration, and transmits the detected acceleration to the CPU(1) through a core chip set(3). The CPU(1) stops a currently executed program based on the detected acceleration, and moves the head of a hard disk to a parking zone.
