A packaging container having an oxygen absorption layer composed of a base resin component (component A) and a component with oxygen absorption capability (component B), wherein the oxygen absorption layer has such a sea-island dispersion structure that the base resin component (component A) constitutes the sea portion while the component with oxygen absorption capability (component B) constitutes the island portions and wherein the ratio of the total surface area (N cm<2>) of island portions constituted of the component with oxygen absorption capability (component B) in the oxygen absorption layer to the internal volume of packaging container (M cm<3>), N/M, is 20 cm<-1> or greater. As a result, not only does the packaging container excel in gas barrier and oxygen absorption properties from the initial stage of filling of contents but also the initial oxygen concentration of contents can be lowered continuously from the initial stage of filling.
