The paddle wheel is mounted in an adaptor ring having an external shoulder seated on an outer housing and an internal shoulder seated on a matching shoulder on the paddle wheel. When the paddle wheel housing has peripheral inlet and outlet ports, the adaptor ring is a sleeve surrounding the inlet ports with a radial clearance. The ring may also surround the outlet ports. If the vane wheel housing is cupshaped, the ring pref. ends with an axial clearance relative to the end face of the housing to form an outlet opening.
