PURPOSE:To increase ability to purity exhaust gas by forming an activated alumina layer mixed with acidic powder and basic powder on the surface of a monolithic carrier and by supporting Pd on the acidic powder and Rh on the basic powder. CONSTITUTION:The base material of a monolithic carrier such as a monolithic cordierite carrier is dipped in an activated alumina slurry, dried and calcined to form an activated alumina layer mixed with acidic powder and basic powder on the surface of the base material. The resulting monolithic carrier is dipped in an ag. soln. of a tetranitropalladic potassium salt, etc., to support Pd on the acidic powder in the activated alumina layer. The carrier is further dipped in an aq. soln. of hexamminerhodium (III) nitrate, etc., to support Rh on the basic powder in the activated alumina layer. Thus, a monolithic catalyst for purification of exhaust gas is obtd. |
