The elevator has a drive engine (2) and a driving shaft (4.1) with a belt wrapped around for propelling a lift. The belt moves parallel in longitudinal direction of a load carrying unit and has two drive trains oriented in longitudinal direction of the load carrier. The total cross-section area of all drive trains is 25 per cent of a cross-section area of the load carrier. Ribs are formed of a wedge-shaped cross section with an angle of pressure from 60 to 120 degrees.
