PURPOSE:To produce a high-quality print with constant stretch of paper by an arrangement in which clear ink is added to fulfill the total requirement of ink deposit when a mixed-color ink deposit does not satisfies the total requirement. CONSTITUTION:A recording head unit 90 has an array of five heads 9A-9E for clear, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, arranged along the scanning direction. This head unit is adapted to print a given pattern of ink dots on a recording medium 1 placed in front of it. When three ink primaries or four primaries including black are mixed in a subtractive process, clear ink is applied over a single-color print on the medium 1 so that the total ink deposit can be equal to that for a two-color print. As a result, uniform ink deposition is achieved to maintain a constant stretch of the recording medium. |
