A linear actuator comprises two flexible, elongate conductive elements (20, 22) disposed along side each other, joined together at one end (24) and having their opposite ends fixed, means for generating a transverse magnetic field, and means for passing a current through the two flexible elements (20, 22) in series. The linear actuator may be used in a fluid dispenser, linear displacement of the end (24) of the flexible elements being used to open and close a valve aperture. |
