Aspiration of saliva from the mouth of a patient by the dentist produces sounds which disturb both the patient and the medical staff. These sounds produced in the aspiration process can be eliminated, however, for example by the invention described below of a sound suppressor or by sound-suppressed suction nozzles. The nozzles used for aspiration of saliva comprise curved, usually transparent plastic tubes (often reinforced by wires). If a sound-absorbing, preferably fibrous, material were introduced into such a tube, a certain restriction of the saliva flow would result. On correct placement of this material, the noise could be reduced. <IMAGE>
