The subject of the invention is a drive for fast-moving watercraft, with a driven, shrouded, axial-flow or semi-axial-flow impeller. This drive is characterised by an intake cross-section (D) of the fixed shroud (2) that is larger than its outlet cross-section (d); by the diameter of the shroud (2) first growing steadily larger from the intake cross-section (D) on, and then shrinking from a maximum diameter (Dmax) to the outlet cross-section (d); and by the absorption capacity of the impeller (4) being smaller than the absorption capacity of the intake cross-section (D) (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
