Apparatus for separating packaging units which have been recognised as being defective, in particular bottles. Such a separating apparatus in accordance with an older proposal, which is intended for use in large plants having high operating capacities, has a relatively complex design. The novel separating apparatus is to be constructionally simplified with regard to the installation in plants having lower operating capacities. The separating apparatus for pushing defective bottles (2) from a main conveyor belt (4) onto a separating belt (7) comprises at least one brush roller (8) which is driven with temporal accuracy by means of a recognition station for defective bottles (2), is arranged, parallel to the main conveying direction, outside the movement path of the bottles and is driven, as required, for one revolution per bottle to be separated. The brush roller (8) has a row (9), arranged parallel to the main conveying direction (a), of bristles (10) of equal length. The separating apparatus is intended preferably for use in bottle treatment plants. <IMAGE>
