The invention relates to aqueous electrodeposition coating materials which contain an amine-modified epoxy resin which contains hydroxyl groups, and, as crosslinking agent, a compound of the general formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R<1> = R<5>-CHOH-CH2- or R<6>-CHOH-CHOH-CH2-, R<2> = alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene, preferably alkylene having 2 to 8 carbon atoms, R<3> = H or R<1>-O-CO-R<2>-CO-, with the proviso that at least one R<3> NOTEQUAL H, R<4> is <IMAGE> , preferably <IMAGE> , R<5> = H, alkyl, R<9>-O-CH2- or R<10>-CO-O-CH2, R<6> = H or alkyl, R<7> = H or alkyl, R<8> = H or alkyl, R<9> = alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, preferably alkyl or aryl, particularly preferably 2-ethylhexyl or phenyl, R<10> = alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, preferably alkyl, and n = 1-6, preferably 1-3.
