The invention relates to a twin-screw extruder with a gearing with a drive shaft at one side and take-off shafts for two axially parallel, intermeshing screws at the other side. A power-splitting gearing is interposed between the drive shaft and the take-off shafts. On the two take-off shafts or screws, synchronising wheels are fixed which intermesh with at least low play. On the one hand the alignment of the take-off shafts and screws, which is necessary for satisfactory screw engagement, can always be readily achieved and on the other hand it is ensured that the assignment of the take-off shafts or screws to one another, once set, is retained unchanged, even in operation, due to the meshing synchronising wheels. <IMAGE>
