A linear unit 1 transports laminar material blanks and plates from a cassette 11 to a transport table 9 or, in the opposite direction, from the transport table to the cassette. The linear unit 1 is moved, by means of a motor 3, along two shafts or linear guides 26, 27. Arranged on the underside of the linear unit 1 is a swivelling cylinder 2 on which is fastened a swivelling arm 18 having a suction plate 6. Vacuum nozzles 7, equipped with suckers, are adjustable in slots 21, 22, 23 of the suction plate and can be acted upon by a partial vacuum, for example for the purpose of sucking on the uppermost plate 14 in the cassette 11. The swivelling cylinder 2 swivels the swivelling arm having the suction plate from the horizontal into the vertical. Located on the swivelling arm 18 is a rotating cylinder 5 which rotates the suction plate 6 through 90@ or 180@ as soon as the vacuum nozzles have sucked on a plate and the swivelling arm 18 is directed horizontally (Figure 2). <IMAGE>
