Stops (7, 8, 9, 11) which are adjustable in the vertical and horizontal directions are normally provided in such devices for guiding the cores, which are composed of a large number of individual laminates. Guides which have been normal until now frequently require cross-sectional changes on the iron core to be stacked or act on parts of the individual laminates which can be damaged by small mechanical stresses. According to the invention, a combination of stops (7, 8, 9, 11), composed of pulling bolts (7), rigidly guided stops (8, 9) and stops (11) supported by loose spreading elements (10) is thus provided. A device having this combination of stops is particularly suitable for stacking iron cores for large transformers having core weights up to several hundred tonnes. <IMAGE>
