The invention provides a method for processing polyester fiber in an alkaline bath added with an amine compound of formula (II)(R1=a base, hydroxyl group, or H, having C1-6; R2=alkyl or aryl group having C1-15; R=alkyl or basic group or H having C1-6) to reduce the volume of the fiber. The amine compound is added to be a 0.3 to 10% solution of the compound. The processed fiber has selectively formed irregularities on its surface to give a spunlike effect for better appearance and touch.
