In a display device (1) including active switching units (9) lateral Schottky diodes (12) are used as switching elements. In the lateral Schottky diodes a sub-micron distance between the Schottky electrode and the other electrode contacting the semiconductor body is obtained by anodising the Schottky metal and by subsequently doping the still bare semiconductor body, for example, by means of an ion implantation.
