The discarding sabot (24) is longitudinally slotted and has in the front region centring holders (44) which are directed inwards against the flying projectile (10.3) and, in the tail region, a centring surface or centring surfaces (36) assigned to the flying projectile (10.3). An opening (59) in the discarding sabot (24) at the tail end is provided with an internal thread (62) for accommodating a screw-in element (60) which, at the front, is used as a seat for a tail-surface region of the flying projectile (10.3). Elements (66, 68) in the form of strips can be compressed as required in the circumferential region of the discarding sabot (24). Conical surfaces (76) on the discarding sabot (24) simplify the insertion of the arrangement at a rate which is normal in the case of automatic weapons, an insertion shock not leading to any axial relative movement of the flying projectile (10.3) with respect to the discarding sabot (24), as a result of a front retaining region (41) and the centring surface or surfaces (36). Those parts of the discarding sabot (24) which are formed by the said longitudinal slot and are held together in the front region by the element (66) in the form of a strip are reversed like levers, with the element (66) in the form of a strip tearing in the direction of the arrows (K), under the influence of the air which is incident from the front, and at the same time release the flying projectile (10.3) for movement in the direction of the arrow (S). <IMAGE>
