The invention specifies a device for introducing the screw cup of an artificial hip joint into an acetabular screw thread cut in the natural pelvic bone. The device comprises a sleeve that can be passed through the central opening of the screw cup with an external screw thread whose pitch corresponds to that of the acetabular screw thread. A shaft is mounted in the sleeve. This shaft has on one end several spreading wings which are arranged on the circumference of the shaft at an axial offset corresponding to the pitch of the acetabular thread and can be radially extended for the central anchorage in the acetabular thread on rotation of the shaft. The device furthermore comprises a cup holder that can be screwed on the outer screw thread of the sleeve for the releasable reception of the screw cup in such a relative position in which the external screw thread of the screw cup lies in the extension of the acetabular thread.
