In a servo assisted power steering, a pump (1) delivers high pressure oil (Qo) to the steering mechanism. A multiport valve (2) on the steering column is operated by the steering wheel to let high pressure oil into one or other of the ends of the actuator (3) which drives the steering mechanism. A pressure regulator (12) and flow regulator (13) are included in the hydraulic circuit. The flow regulator is influenced by a speed detector (14), and changes the oil flow to an aux. circuit (7d). With increasing speed the flow increases and restraining pistons (5,6) at each end of the actuator become increasingly effective, such that the torque can be exerted by the driver to turn the steering wheel. |
