BLOCK DIVIDING SEQUENTIAL REPRODUCING CODING SYSTEM

PURPOSE:To attain a sequential reproducing and to reproduce an original picture with high efficiency by combining the advantages of a multigradation adaptive type block coding system (GBTC system) and a sequential reproducing coding system (PCS system) and providing an original picture difference value generating circuit of an original value and a reproduced picture. CONSTITUTION:A difference picture preparing circuit 27 obtains the difference for picture elements between the original picture and the picture reproduced by a picture reproducing circuit 26 and prepares a difference picture dij. A dij coder codes the dij signal. A reference level coding circuit 11 takes the high order (n) bits of a reference level LA, quantizes them into 2 gradations, after that, separates them into (n) bit planes and a coding processing is executed by a PCS coder. Thus, the best use of a highly efficient coding to separate each block into three components which is the advantage of the GBTC system and the best use of the function of the sequential reproducing which is the advantage of the PCS system can be made as they are and the highly efficient coding can be executed to the same picture information as the original picture.
