PURPOSE:To suppress formation of unfavorable by-products, such as L- tryptophan, and efficiently obtain 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan(5HTP) with a high concentration of the accumulated 5HTP in a culture, by cultivating a special transformant microorganism. CONSTITUTION:A transformant microorganism having the ability to produce 5HTP holding a DNA fragment containing a gene capable of coding an L- tryptophan synthase system (except anthranilate synthase) or further at least one recombinant DNA fragment containing a gene capable of coding drug tolerance integrated therein is prepared. This microorganism is then cultivated in a nutrient culture medium containing tryptophan, a salt or precursor thereof in the minimum amount required for growth and further 5-hydroxyanthranilic acid or 5-hydroxyindole or a salt thereof to collect the 5HTP from the resultant culture. |
