A short length of Bowden cable (23) is connected between the gearbox and the secondary counter (1). It is protected at each end by snap-in collars (21,27). Within the casing of the secondary counter, the central core (19) of the cable is fastened to the rotating shaft (2) of the counter via a sprung shock absorber (37,43,42). The shaft has an outer gear (4) linked via a gear chain (5,6,7,8) to the mechanical counter (12 to 14). The counter in conventional, except that it ceases to operate after 500,000 kilometres, thus making it impossible to wind round the clock to a lower reading. Another Bowden cable (44) is connected to the other end of the shaft in a similar way. The other cable is linked to the dashboard odometer in the normal way.
|
