Appts. for performing a fluid-solids simulated moving-bed contact process comprises a fixed fluidised bed having at least two inlet and outlet passages and a first tier of multi-port valves for the passages. Two other tiers of valves are provided to perform other functions in the control of the bed. The third tier has valves having two ports in communication with the fluidsolids contact zones at points between the sub-beds. Number of valves is reduced.
