The appliance on a wood chipping machine has a rotating chipping disc with at least one blade fastened to a radially mounted holder. The blade holder (18) consists of a filler piece fitting in a recess (14) in the disc (10). The filler piece has a retaining mounting for a correspondingly shaped blade, or for a retaining cassette (26,28) for the blade. The blade or cassette are secured in position by fastening members (32) insertable from the top of the disc. The filler piece can be fixed in the disc recess by a bolt (20) through the underside of the discs, and a nut (22) on the disc underside.
