PRODUCTION OF NOVEL HETEROPOLYSACCHARIDES

The fermentation process comprises aerobic cultivation of a methylophilus viscogenus strain in an aq. nutrient medium contg. a C source to produce extra-cellular hetero-polysaccharide in the medium; sepg. the micro-organism from the medium, and adjusting the soln. to alkaline pH to deacetylated hetero-polysaccharide. This process is useful for the production of deacetylated heteropolysaccharide poly 54 having a 0.5% viscosity of at least 1000 cps. at 50 rpm with Brookfield spindle No.4 at 25≦̸C.
