The invention relates to a device for recovering vapours coming from a fuel tank 10 of a vehicle equipped with an internal combustion engine, of the type comprising a filter including a container 16 enclosing an adsorbent material 14, one end 18, 20 of which is connected to the upper part 22 of the tank by a live pipe 24 and to the intake circuit 12 of the engine via a purge pipeline 26 and the other end 28 of which communicates with a source of air for regenerating the adsorbent material. According to the invention a non-return valve 32 is arranged in the live pipe, and opens when the pressure inside the tank is greater than a specified threshold. A hose 34 whose cross-section is reduced with respect to that of the live pipe, a first end 36 of which is connected to the upper part of the tank and whose free end 38 opens out inside the adsorbent material vents the tank via a cut-off valve 40 which is made to close when the engine is stopped. <IMAGE>
