The device is fixed on the reference surface and consists of a vertical pendular arm (4) resting on a support (3) and e.g. a light or ultrasound source (1), fixed inside the mobile arm. The beam of electromagnetic radiation emitted by the source is directed along the arm's axis and is collected by an array of e.g. photodetectors or microphones (2). The analogue or digital signal from the receivers can be either displayed to indicate the surface inclination or, alternatively, it can control servomotors which automatically maintain a predetermined inclination of the surface. USE/ADVANTAGE - For measuring inclination of surfaces along several axes simultaneously and for control of horizontality of e.g. balances, machine tools, robots or automatic cameras. It has reduced number of mechanical and electronic components, high accuracy and is reliable.
