PURPOSE:To enhance stability in long-term storage by dispersing in water a compound of a specific salicylic acid resin with a polyvalent metal in the presence of, for example, a polyvinyl alcohol derivative having a sulfonic group in the molecule. CONSTITUTION:A salicylic acid derivative is provided which consists of 5-40mol.% structural units represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 represent H or a methyl group, and R3 represents H or a 1-4C alkyl group), and 60-95mol.% structural units represented by formula II (wherein R1, R2 and R3 are as defined above), and which has a weight-average mol. wt. of from 500-10,000. Subsequently, this salicylic acid derivative is dispersed in water together with an anionic water-soluble polymer which is a polyvinyl alcohol derivative having a sulfonic group in the molecule or a salt thereof, or together with a similar compound, thereby preparing an aqueous suspension of a compound of a salicylic acid resin with a polyvalent metal. This aqueous suspension does not suffer from sedimentation or flocculation even if it is stored for a prolong period of time, and further it shows improved long-term stability especially at high temperatures. |
