In a method and apparatus for the selective determination of the concentration of a dissolved component in a solvent by means of an osmotic cell, the osmotic cell contains, according to the invention, a substance which is not present in the solution under examination and which is either virtually insoluble or does not permeate the membrane. This substance reacts chemically with the component which permeates the osmotic cell, with a product produced therefrom in the cell or with a product which is produced from the component in the solution under examination and which permeates the cell. In this process, reaction products are produced which generate a pressure in the osmotic cell which differs from the osmotic pressure of the chemically reacted fraction of the substance. This establishes a pressure change in the cell from which the content of the component in the solution under examination is determined from calibrated values. ……
