PURPOSE:To prevent a reduction of SOx to H2S by forming an oxide coating layer of Al, Ce, Mo and La in a specified mole ratio upon a refractory support and further by having one species or more from among Pt, Pd and Rh supported by the coating layer. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for clarifying an exhaust gas is prepared by forming an oxide coating layer, containing Al, Ce, Mo and La in a mole ratio of Al/Ce/Mo/La=2/(0.1-0.6)/(0.01-1.2)/(0.01-0.10), on a refractory support, and further by having at least one species of noble metal from among Pt, Pd and Rh supported by the coating layer. The coating layer on the support is obtained by wash-coating the support with a slurry or a solution containing oxides or salts of the aforementioned metal oxides, drying and baking it afterward. The obtained catalyst traps SOx and prevent its reduction to H2S and oxidizes generated H2S to SO2 by an O2-storage effect. |
