The invention relates to a brush holder for several carbon brushes 13 which are guided separately therein, comprising pressure levers 2 or compression springs for each of these carbon brushes and a device for indicating the wear of these brushes. According to the invention, this brush holder is characterised in that, for indicating the wear on each brush holder, it is a single cut-out (switch) element 1 which is actuated by a calliper (U-shaped device) 3 mounted in or on the body 6 of the brush holder and in that this calliper (U-shaped device) 3 acts on the cut-out (switch) element 1 when, as a consequence of wear of the brushes, one or more pressure levers 2 or compression springs bear on this calliper (U-shaped device) 3. <IMAGE>
