A heat exchanger, for example a radiator for an internal combustion engine for a vehicle, has a heat exchanger grid which is inserted between two tube plates (sheets) and consists in accordance with the required cooling effect of a specific number of flat tubes and folded lamellae assigned to the latter. Provided on the mutually opposite outsides of the heat exchanger grid is one lateral part each into which there are impressed (stamped) unidirectional transverse reinforcing fins (seams) of specific height which bear against the outer tubes of the heat exchanger grid and can be soldered to the latter. By using lateral parts provided with transverse reinforcing fins, it is possible in a simple way to employ the present heat exchanger grid of a heat exchanger designed for a width B0 to provide, while maintaining the grid dimension of the tube pitch and with virtually the same cooling effect, a heat exchanger which has a width B1 which is reduced by comparison therewith. For this purpose, instead of the lateral parts and the outer lamellae of the wider heat exchanger use is made of the lateral parts provided with the transverse reinforcing fins. The height of these fins is in line with the width B1.
