The method involves utilizing a permanent magnet (400) for generating magnetic field lines having two different orientations. The magnet and a set of magnetic dip-switches (2) are displaced with respect to each other using an actuating unit by performing a translation movement of the magnet. A mobile ferromagnetic membrane of each dip-switch is subjected to the orientations of the field lines for tilting the membrane between opening and closing positions, during the displacement. The displacement of the magnet and the dip-switches are repeated for stressing the dip-switches several times. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for testing or lapping a set of magnetic dip-switches.
