A method for controlling an electronic expansion valve of an air conditioner is provided to control opening of an electronic expansion valve adaptively based on a calculated reference pulse to simplify a process and achieve prompt A/S, and prevent trip caused by insufficient talks of a compressor motor due to a difference in pressure when the compressor motor is restarted. An electronic expansion valve is opened completely when power is applied to an air conditioner in the course of performing a standby mode(302-306). The electronic expansion valve is closed completely when an operation start signal of the air conditioner is provided(308-310). An indoor thermal load amount is calculated in accordance with indoor and outdoor temperatures of the air conditioner, and differences between the indoor temperature and a set temperature(312-316). A reference opening value pulse of the electronic expansion valve is calculated based on the calculated indoor thermal load, the indoor temperature, and the outdoor temperature, and a reference operation frequency of the compressor(318). Opening control of the electronic expansion valve is performed gradually based on the reference opening value pulse to converge an opening value pulse of the electronic expansion valve into the calculated reference opening value pulse(320).
