The skimming chamber 6 of the centrifuge drum 2 is arranged axially between the discharge chamber 10 and the collection chamber 12, and the discharge channel 11 is arranged concentrically with respect to the axis of rotation of the centrifuge drum 2, the discharge channel 11 leading from the discharge chamber 10 with radial spacing through the centre of the skimming disc 7 into the collection chamber 12. It is thus possible to permit the light fluid component to be discharged into the collection chamber 12 over an extremely small diameter. Since the circumferential speeds are proportional to the respective diameter of the centrifuge drum, only small mechanical stressing of the fluid component being discharged is produced by the small discharge diameter of the discharge channel 11.
