USE:An intermediate for PS-5 and analogs thereof which are beta-lactam antibiotic substances. PREPARATION:An S-phenylbutanethioate expressed by formula II is reacted with a boron compound expressed by formula III (R<4> and R<5> are alkyl or cycloalkyl, provided that R<4> and R<5> in an integrated form together with boron to which they are linked may form a ring) to provide a reaction mixture.
