A method for centring an interior conductor, for example an optical fibre held in a plug connector, which is coaxially surrounded by a cable sheath and held in the cable sheath. The object of the invention is to specify a simple, precise and reliable method of the kind mentioned above. The object is achieved by rotating the cable sheath (11) with its interior conductor (10) about the longitudinal sheath axis (24) and at the same time determining the path described by the interior conductor (10), by determining, when the interior conductor is eccentrically mounted, at least three positions (27, 28, 29) of the described orbit (25) with the corresponding centre (30) of the circle and by aligning the interior conductor (10) in the direction of the centre (30) of the circle on the basis of the determined values in such a manner that the radius (26) of the circle (25) described by the interior conductor tends to zero. The method shows a simple and exact method for centring interior conductors, in particular optical fibres. <IMAGE>
