PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of noise due to engine oscillations with improved rigidity of a cylinder block by engaging recessed parts of a reinforcing member with projections of a bank, and reinforcing a part between a pair of banks by means of the reinforcing member firmly fixed thereto. CONSTITUTION:A plate 6 reinforces a part between banks 2, 3 to improve rigidity of a cylinder block 1. A fixing area such as welded area between the plate 6 and the cylinder block 1 is increased by engaging recessed parts 63, 64 formed on the plate 6 with block side ribs 4, 5 formed on the cylinder block 1, compared to the base of simple fixing of plates. The block side ribs 4, 5 regulate the movement of the plate 6 to firmly fix it to the cylinder block 1 so that the reinforcing effect is increased and the rigidity of the cylinder block 1 is much more improved. The noise generation due to engine oscillations can be reduced accordingly. |
