Capsules contg. a medicant and a masticatory substance such as chicle and butadiene-styrene rubber were prepd.. For example, theophylline (300 mg/capsule) was incorporated into capsules contg. a masticatory substance and the resultant capsules administrated to humans. The average max. blood concn. and time to max. blood concn. were 6.31g/ml and 4.39hr, resp., for these capsules compared to 8.25g/ml and 1.47hr, resp., for Eloxophyllin elixir.
