Polyethoxylates of mono- and/or polyunsaturated fatty alcohols with 12 - 18 C atoms, which have an average degree of ethoxylation of 2 to 5 and may contain 1 - 2 terminal propylene oxide groups in place of the corresponding number of ethylene oxide groups, are suitable, where appropriate together with dissolved inorganic electrolyte salts, as N-free thickening agents for aqueous surfactant solutions. The products can also be used mixed with polyethoxylates of saturated fatty alcohols.
