PURPOSE:To reduce the number of parts by constructing a machine tool such that a tool carrying arm having a tool gripping means comes to a tool replacing position upon angular displacement of a rotary body and the arm rotates to bring a tool into coaxial position with a spindle, thereby carrying out indexing and conversion through a single drive source. CONSTITUTION:When a rotary body 23 makes angular displacement in order to bring a tool carrying arm 25 having means 26 for gripping a desired toll T to a tool replacing position P, the arm 25 moves from position P while changing the posture and an arm 25 having a new tool T is carried to the position P. Under this state, the tool T is held horizontal and coaxial with a spindle 6. Upon advance of a spindle head device 5, a gripping means 26 is released under the condition where the tool T is inserted to the spindle 6. Upon retreat of the spindle head device 5, the device retreats with the tool T being mounted on the spindle 6 and gripping pawls 37, 37 in the gripping means 26 close upon passing through of the tool T. When the rotary body 23 makes angular displacement to move the arm 25 from position P, a work can be machined by means of the tool T mounted on the spindle 6. |
