An adaptive equalizer and an adaptive equalizing method are provided to improve a processing speed of an adaptive equalizer by being operated in n-divided clock period having a different phase with a parallel structure. An adaptive equalizer includes n filters(310_1-310_n), n error generation units(320_1-320_n), n filtering coefficient update units(330_1-330_n), and a clock divider(340). N filters have a parallel structure. N error generation units have a parallel structure, and generate an error for a signal outputted from n filters. N filtering coefficient update units have a parallel structure, and updates a filtering coefficient for each of n filters using an error outputted from n error generation unit and data inputted to n filters. The clock divider n-divides a clock and provides n-divided clocks having a different phase to n filters, n error generation units and n filtering coefficient update units.
