MAGNETO-OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To enable recording and erasing with a weak magnetic field by placing a 2nd thin magnetic film having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction parallel with a substrate adjacently to a 1st thin magnetic film having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction perpendicular to the substrate and on the side opposite to a means for impressing the magnetic field to the 1st thin magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd thin magnetic film 13 having the axis of easy magnetization in the direction parallel with the substrate 1 is disposed adjacently to the side opposite to the side where the means for impressing the magnetic field to the thin magnetic film 2 is disposed. Information is recorded on such recording medium by impressing the magnetic field thereto from a magnetic head 18 or by condensing laser light 15 by a lens 16 and projecting the same to the medium from the substrate 1 side opposite thereto. Since the 2nd thin magnetic film 13 exists between the substrate 1 and the 1st thin magnetic film 2, such a magnetic circuit as shown by a dotted line is constituted. The intensity of the magnetic field to be impressed from the magnetic head to the thin magnetic film is, therefore, substantially increased even if the intensity of said magnetic field is the same. The information recording and erasing characteristics are thereby improved.
