PROCESS FOR CHEMICAL AND THERMAL TREATMENT OF STEEL WORKPIECES A process for chemical and thermal treatment of steel workpieces accompanied by the formation thereon of a coating includes diffusive precipitation onto the base metal of the workpiece of an intermetallic compound from a melt of a low-melting-point metal, such as sodium or lithium, at a temperature of from 720 to 820.degree.C for a duration of time necessary for obtaining a coating layer of required thickness.
