A device allowing a staircase string to be formed the height and going of which can vary without affecting the rigidity and stability of the unit. It is formed of two angle bracket or T-shaped pieces of polygonal or circular section, one of which overlaps 2 and slides into the other 1. Fixing is achieved using holes 3 drilled vertically and horizontally in each piece. The device is for application in the construction, decoration and fitting out of interiors and exteriors. <IMAGE>
