The subject of the present invention is an especially confidential identification method ensuring the authenticity of any object as well as a device for implementing this method. According to the invention, the identification method consists in marking an object with the aid of at least one photo-luminescent ink which is invisible by nature, preferably with the aid of at least two photo-luminescent inks a, b, to produce the marking on the object, preferably in the shape of coded confidential information, and to excite the ink or the inks in an appropriate way in order to allow decoding of the information. The present invention is applicable to all objects whatever their nature, and particularly to objects having a significant market value such as objects of value in particular. <IMAGE>
