Process for accelerated acidic leaching of clayey uranium ore, characterised in that it comprises the following stages: - the clayey ore which has a moisture content higher than approximately 20 % is dried so that it reaches a moisture content of approximately 0 % to approximately 10 %; - the ore obtained in the preceding stage is crushed to particles with a particle size of approximately 10 mu to approximately 20 mm; - the particles are converted into the form of pellets (pelletising stage) from approximately 5 to approximately 60 mm in diameter, with the aid of a liquid and/or an acid in such quantity that the moisture content of the pellets is from approximately 13 % to approximately 21 %; - the uranium ore thus pelletised is leached (leaching stage) with the aid of a solution containing water or an acid or a mixture of water and of an acid, an acid being employed during at least one of the pelletising and leaching stages, the liquid and the acid which are employed during the pelletising and the solution employed during the leaching having to be compatible with each other, the yield of uranium dissolved in the production liquors obtained being at least approximately 85 % and especially at least approximately 90 %.
